TIDING-UP EFFECTIVELY

Dear students,

Does your mother always ask you to organize your belongings, such as textbooks, clothes, and toys? Have you ever done so? If yes, how often do you organize them? When you tidy up, do you simply pile up all the messy items or categorize them systematically? For the stuff that you no longer need, will you donate or give away them? Do you really understand the concept of organizing?

In recent years, the Japanese Art of decluttering and organizing was popularized by a Japanese author. It calls 斷捨離 (pronounced as dyun6 se2 lei4) in Chinese. Its literal meaning is to get rid of unnecessary things, let go of superfluous stuff and the attachment to them. People around the world have been drawn to this philosophynowadays. Many countries do not only make such concept into TV programs, but also edit and publish it into books, in hope of encouraging people to organize their lives.

It can also be seen that people have started to reassess their belongings and organize their homes. For example, sundry items are piled high at home over the years, which even occupy other spaces and affect our daily routines. Therefore, it is always great if we regularly tidy up and declutter, so as to free our mind from annoyances. Tidying up can restore a peaceful mind and lets us think more clearly.

Stepping into September, we embark on a new academic year. Let’s seize this opportunity to declutter and organize: Keep only those things that speak to your heart, and discard items that no longer spark joy; put away the last-year textbooks and keep the new ones properly; prepare stationery and plan a new schedule for daily study and activity. So, you can get yourself ready for a challenging but enjoyable learning journey.
