這個暑假，可譽的孩子沒有只待在家裏，而是參加了「在校. 課後託管服務計劃」的暑期特別活動！計劃由聖公會東涌綜合服務負責，為了讓孩子們在假期中不只得到學習支援，更能擴闊眼界，特地走到戶外，來到【西貢龜途社區教育基地】進行了一場別具意義的體驗日！
活動當日，孩子們換上亮眼的橙色小背心，變身成「小龜守護者」！他們將知識與實踐結合，上了一堂寶貴的生命教育課：
餵食大學問
原來龜龜的飲食大有學問！導師教導大家要遵循「高纖維、低蛋白、低水分、低糖、多元化」的原則。孩子們小心翼翼地拿著葉菜餵食，看見龜龜吃得津津有味，大家都好開心！
反思棄養問題
除了開心互動，他們也深入探討了嚴肅的棄養問題。因為很多人沒有了解烏龜實際長大後的體型，也沒計算過牠們生病時的龐大醫藥費，最後導致棄養。這讓孩子們明白，飼養任何寵物都是一生一世的責任。
動物彩繪的傷害
導師特別講解了「彩繪龜」對龜殼的傷害，提醒大家愛護動物，絕對不能為了美觀而傷害牠們。
親手打掃龜舍
「清潔」也是照顧烏龜的重要一環！孩子們分工合作，拿起刷子清洗水盆，拿起掃把清理積水與落葉。雖然滿頭大汗，但看著龜龜們乾淨的家，大家都很有成就感呢！
透過這次【龜途教育工作坊】的實地體驗，孩子們學會了尊重生命、愛惜動物。相信這份在陽光下揮灑汗水的回憶，會成為他們暑假中最難忘的一課！
This summer, the children of Ho Yu didn’t just stay at home. They joined the special summer activities of the “In-School After-School Care Service Scheme,” organized by the H.K.S.K.H. Tung Chung Integrated Services. To ensure the children not only receive academic support during the holidays but also broaden their horizons, we took them outdoors to the Sai Kung Turtle Trail Community and Education Base for a truly meaningful experience day!
On the day of the event, the children put on bright orange vests and transformed into “Little Turtle Guardians”! They combined knowledge with hands-on practice, offering a valuable lesson in life education:
The Big Science of Feeding
Turtle diets involve a lot of know-how! The instructor taught everyone to follow the principle of “high fiber, low protein, low moisture, low sugar, and variety.” The children carefully fed the turtles with leafy greens, and everyone was delighted to see the turtles eating with gusto!
Reflecting on the Issue of Abandonment
Besides the joyful interactions, they also seriously discussed the grim issue of abandonment. Many people do not understand the actual size turtles can grow to, nor do they consider the high veterinary costs when they get sick, leading to abandonment. This helped the children understand that keeping any pet is a lifelong responsibility.
The Harm of Painted Turtles
The instructor specifically explained the damage that “painted turtles” do to their shells, reminding everyone that to love animals, we must never harm them for aesthetic reasons.
Hands-On Cleaning of the Turtle Enclosure
“Cleaning” is also a crucial part of caring for turtles! The children worked together, using brushes to scrub the water basins and brooms to sweep away standing water and fallen leaves. Although they were sweating profusely, they felt a great sense of accomplishment seeing the turtles’ clean home!
Through this hands-on experience at the Turtle Trail Education Workshop, the children learned to respect life and cherish animals. We believe these memories of working hard under the sun will be one of their most unforgettable lessons from this summer vacation!
