A Love Letter to Effort and Love: Ho Yu Primary School’s DEAR Awards Ceremony – Small Bodies, Big Transformations

它不是死板的功課,而是 Daily(每日)· Exploration(探索)· Achievement(成就)· Reflection(反思) 的成長魔法。

In the school hall on the day of the DEAR Awards Ceremony, the applause in the hall wasn’t just for the performances – it was for every invisible drop of perseverance.

The Primary 1 and 2 children at Ho Yu brought their year‑long stories of self‑regulated learning to life on stage through dance, recitation, and song. 🎤💃 But the most heart‑warming moment wasn’t the polish of the show – it was when they stood in front of their parents, holding handmade storybooks, and read out word by word: “I will listen carefully in class, finish my homework on my own, help with household chores…” 📖❤️

Those nervous yet shining little eyes, that determination to make their parents proud – many mums and dads in the audience quietly wiped away tears.

What is DEAR?

It’s not rigid homework – it’s a growth philosophy built on Daily · Exploration · Achievement · Reflection. Through reading, calligraphy, fun dictation, and physical activities, children learn not just knowledge, but the habit of “improving a little every day.” And behind that habit are parents who accompany them day after day – you are their warmest alarm clock and their strongest anchor. ⏰🤝

The certificate is more than an award – it’s a measure of “no pain, no gain.”

Each certificate handed out says: Dear child, we see your year‑long persistence; dear parents, thank you for never giving up on the journey alongside them.

Moving forward, Ho Yu will continue to nurture this flame of self‑regulated learning, so that every child grows not only into a “good student,” but into a “person who knows how to learn.” Because true growth is never just a one‑time performance – it’s the everyday victory of liking the person you become a little more than you did yesterday.
