All Aboard the “Joyful Reading Voyage” – Let Every Child Discover Their Own Treasure in Books

On World Book Day, April 23, our Ho Yu students, accompanied by their teachers, stepped into the main stadium of Kai Tak Sports Park to join the “2026 National Reading Week – – Reading Without Boundaries Sharing Session and Joint School Half‑Hour Reading”, organised by the Education Bureau. With over 100 primary and secondary schools plus special schools on site, more than a thousand students and teachers, alongside over 30,000 participants online, we successfully set a new Guinness World Record for the “largest multimodal reading lesson”!

The event was packed with inspiration: Dr. Choi Yuk‑lin, Secretary for Education, recommended the book Just Walk via video, encouraging students that “every reading is a journey of the mind, and every book opens a different world.” Dr. Sze Chun‑fai, Under Secretary for Education, gave an on‑site address, and singer Alfred Hui shared his performing arts experience to explore the value of sports. The reading lesson centred on the theme “Power of Sports”, using multimodal resources from the Book Companion series – combining texts, images, audio‑visuals and body performances – to show our children the boundless possibilities of reading. After the lesson, all participants recited the “Reading Pledge” and enjoyed a quiet half‑hour of shared reading.

Back on campus, the “Joyful Reading Voyage” Reading Incentive Scheme continues to witness our students’ growth. Organised by the Curriculum Development Institute of the Education Bureau, this scheme encourages students to explore a wide range of texts and reading materials through a reward system. We are thrilled that some Ho Yu students have earned the honorary title of “Reading Captain” – this recognition is the best motivation for them to turn the next page with eagerness.

At Ho Yu, what we give our children is never limited to the classroom. We want to plant in them a lifelong love for words and a thirst for knowledge. May every young learner discover their own treasure in the vast sea of books, and may lifelong learning begin with the joy of reading.
