Tradition Meets Tech! Ho Yu’s AI Lantern Riddles + Scratch Art Celebrating Chinese Culture

On the 15th day of the first lunar month, Ho Yu students enjoyed a fantastic Lantern Festival event during lunch break that blended tradition with technology!

Before the Lunar New Year holiday, our upper primary students collected a variety of fun lantern riddles and used AI technology to turn them into an interactive game app for lower primary students to solve. This creative approach not only helped students learn about Lantern Festival customs but also showed them how technology can breathe new life into traditional culture.

On the day of the event, the first floor was beautifully decorated with traditional lanterns and riddles, creating a festive atmosphere. Our younger students admired the colourful displays while answering AI-generated riddles on tablets—it was both exciting and educational! The upper primary students felt proud seeing the riddles they collected transformed into an interactive game, and they eagerly gathered to cheer on their peers.

In addition to solving riddles, we also held a Lantern Festival scratch art activity, where students created beautiful Chinese cultural scenes. Using wooden sticks, they carefully scratched away the black coating on special paper, revealing vibrant artworks inspired by China’s rich heritage. Through this hands-on activity, students expressed their creativity while deepening their appreciation of traditional Chinese culture.

The perfect combination of tradition, cultural appreciation, and modern technology brought joy to students of all ages. This event reminded everyone that while we must cherish our roots, we should also embrace innovation to keep our traditions alive and thriving!
