12th February ·Wishing Tree Blessings @ Yu Zhi Sinology Room
On 12th February during lunch break, the Yu Zhi Chinese Studies Room was filled with excitement as students gathered around the newly added “Wishing Tree” to take part in a traditional blessing activity. Earlier that day in Chinese class, they had learned about the auspicious meaning of the character “Ji” (fortune) during the New Year and how to read couplets—knowledge they were now eager to put into practice.
Using colour pens, the children carefully drew colourful “Ji” characters on paper, adding their personal wishes alongside—hopes for academic progress, good health, family happiness, and more. With the help of the Putonghua Ambassadors, they gently “hung” their heartfelt creations onto the tree. Soon, the tree was adorned with a vibrant display of blessings, creating a warm and joyous scene.
Through this activity, students not only applied the literary knowledge gained in the classroom but also experienced the beauty of traditional New Year customs, getting themselves ready to welcome the year ahead!

Dragons dancing at the flower market, horses galloping into the New Year – passing on the beauty of Chinese culture for generations to come.

The grand finale of Culture Week, the “New Year Fun Day,” took place on campus, targeting our school students. Our Primary 5 and 6 students went all out, independently designing creative booths with an AI theme! Crowds gathered at each booth, laughter filled the air, sparking an AI craze across the campus! ![]()

At the same time, we also featured a Chinese Culture Project Exhibition, showcasing the learning outcomes that students from all levels had diligently researched during January. From traditional festival customs to treasures of Chinese art, from historical figures to contemporary technological developments, students presented their exploration and reflections on Chinese civilisation through various forms including posters, models, and multimedia presentations, allowing cultural heritage to take root in every corner of the campus. ![]()

This series of events not only allowed children to appreciate the beauty of culture and showcase their project achievements, but also enabled them, as alumni, to give back to their alma mater, as older siblings to care for their younger peers, and as Flag Guard members to express their patriotic spirit – embodying the traditional Chinese virtue of “remembering one’s roots” . The saplings planted yesterday are now branching out, returning kindness to their teachers, passing the torch from generation to generation. A truly profound and meaningful experience! ![]()
At Ho Yu, we are dedicated to enabling children to learn through play – embracing technological innovation while understanding traditional customs and connecting with our national heritage. This Year of the Horse, we played games, learned about culture, showcased talents, explored technology, honoured our teachers, passed on traditional crafts, and paid tribute to our national flag – returning home with hearts full of joy!
Wishing everyone a Year of the Horse full of energy and progress. May we all gallop forward with Ho Yu, passing on our culture while innovating for the future, towards a bright tomorrow! ![]()
