Ho Yu is immensely honored to have served as the organizer of the “Sik Sik Yuen Primary Schools Joint Schools Chinese Cultural Storytelling Competition—’Life Lessons for Children: The Ten Teachings of Master Wong Tai Sin.'” We had the privilege of witnessing the meticulous preparation behind the scenes and the relentless training of the participants and young emcees.
This competition revolved around the “Ten Teachings” from the “Treasure Book of Wong Tai Sin”—filial piety, fraternal duty, loyalty, benevolence, righteousness, integrity, shame, propriety, moderation, and trustworthiness. It encouraged children to draw inspiration from these stories, reflect on their personal experiences, and share their insights, thereby nurturing their expressive skills and instilling correct values. The smooth execution of the event was made possible by the collective efforts of all parties involved. The participating children practiced diligently, retelling classic stories fluently in Putonghua. The young emcees prepared their scripts in advance and rehearsed multiple times to ensure a seamless flow. As the organizer, Ho Yu was responsible for coordinating venue arrangements, sound checks, photography, reception, award ceremonies, and other logistical details, ensuring that every aspect was meticulously handled.
On the day of the competition, the children shared heartfelt emotions and delivered smooth narrations of the Ten Teachings and their reflections, earning warm applause and recognition from the judges. The performance of Ho Yu’s children was particularly inspiring: Law Wai Ling Lyn from the junior group won third place, while Cheng Hei Man and Lin Chi Man received commendation awards. In the senior group, Wong Ngai Hei Renee clinched the championship, and Tsui Tsz Yin secured second place. These outstanding achievements are a testament to the students’ long hours of practice and their deep understanding of the stories’ meanings, as well as the unwavering support and encouragement from parents and teachers.
Beyond the competition itself, this event served as a practice of cultural heritage and character education. Ho Yu sincerely extends its gratitude to the inter-school judging panel for their professional feedback and encouragement, as well as to every colleague who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. It is through everyone’s collective efforts that the competition was successfully concluded, allowing the children to reap valuable lessons and experiences for their growth.
